Uuden Seelannin palkituimman viinitalon omistaja ja johtaja sai ritarillisen arvon

14. elokuuta Uuden Seelannin Kuvernööripäällikkö myönsi George Fistonichille arvonimen Sir. Tänä vuonna arvonimiä myönnetään yhteensä 85 kpl ja George Fistonich on ensimmäinen ikinä, jolle arvonimi myönnetään palvelusta Uuden Seelannin viinituotannon hyväksi. Tämän arvonimen ansaitseminen George Fistonichille kätkee taakseen lukuisia edistyksellisiä tapahtumia ja paljon työtä ja intohimoa kehittää viinikulttuuria, sen tuntemusta, viinien laatua, viinien toimivuutta ja viinikoulusta.

Today is the day that George takes the big bird to Wellington to be Knighted by New Zealand’s Governor General under the orders of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 2nd of England and her dominion of New Zealand.

This knighthood is the first ever given out in the history of the New Zealand wine industry which was established in 1819 AD. It is in recognition of George’s services to the New Zealand wine industry and is the culmination of what he has achieved so far.

Some of his achievements in New Zealand to date include:

First to have grapes grown under contract
First to pay for grapes on a quality and not quantity basis
First to produce Reserve wines
First company to promote wine and food education with the formation of the “Living with Wine Club” and the close association with Tonys Restaurant chain
First to obtain a vineyard restaurant licence , the forerunner to wine tourism in New Zealand
First to employ female sales representatives in the liquor industry
First to promote public owned vineyard companies – Seddon in 1992 followed by Terra Vitae in 1998
First major winery in the world to embrace screwcap technology
Pioneered the employment of a full time viticulturist
Nominated in 3 successive years for International Wine Personality of the Year
NBR 2004 New Zealander of the Year
2005 New Zealand Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year
